이상의 육친(肉親) 시편과 수필에 내포된 ‘연민’의 복합적 성격

Abstract

This discussion has tried to investigate concretely a reality of Lee Sang’s tragic life by illuminating a complexity and its cause of his pity for his blood relatives who drowned his inner life in pains. After he was separated as a four-year-old boy from his blood parents in the year of 1913 when he became the eldest adopted son of the main family of his blood father’s elder brother, he returned at last to his blood relatives’ home in Hoyjadong when he was twenty four years old in the year of 1933. This biographical event served as a momentum as to generate his senses of alienation and lack against his blood relatives. And the ill-fated lives of his blood relatives was to be a painful string endlessly inspiring pity into him Moreover, his pity for his blood relatives contained a bunch of very complex emotions. His works not only described incoherently appearances of his blood father and mother but also entangled complexly his emotions of pity, anger, resentment, and mortification against his blood parents. These were owing to an incomplete situation of existence without satisfying simultaneously the analogousness and contiguousness between himself and his blood relatives. At the start point of a condition of existence where the analogousness and contiguousness could not be satisfied simultaneously, it was the biographical event that he became the eldest adopted son of his blood father’s elder brother. In that case, How did he himself accept that event? It is to be found in his essays and poetry that a sign shows that he recognized himself as ‘an abandoned child.’ A sense of alienation of the abandoned and an urgent anxiety about the abandoners(blood relatives) were simultaneously alternating into his self-recognition as an abandoned child. The simultaneity of these tow was to be an emotion for which he felt his blood relatives. His pity for his blood relatives appeared with making a contradiction in a bunch of emotions as anger, mortification, sadness, and guilt. This complexity of pity functioned as a substantial element with making his inner life to be understood in terms that it implied his fundamental condition of existence.
