인정의 서사와 주체의 재정립: 무명의 한 여성 판소리 창자의 구술생애담을 대상으로

Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the composition of self‐narrative and the pattern of identity expression, focusing on a nameless female pansori performer’s oral life story. A human is guaranteed to have the existence of subject in others’ awareness and recognition. Depending on what relationship an individual and the world establish between them, the direction for the establishment of identity and self‐realization is determined. Oral life story is a narrative showing conflicts that an individual has experienced with the world through his life, and how he established the identity of subject in the process. Going further, oral life story is a narrative seeking the establishment of present and future real identity while the speaker contacts the world. The speaker of interest in this study was an artist who had learned pansori and traditional dances from a young age. Due to livelihood and marriage problems, however, she experienced a grieve crisis in the identity that she was pursuing, and showed various responses in order to resolve the crisis. Nevertheless, the speaker of interest always put herself as a marginal being in the world that she pursued. The overlapped marginalization brought the speaker of interest an identity crisis. Through oral life story, however, the speaker narrated her experience of overcoming the identity crisis, and furthermore, began to seek actively the establishment of positive narrative identity and real identity. A person’s goal to narrate his life is for inducing the world’s recognition of the subject based no self‐understanding. Thus, the speaker uses various narrative strategies in the process of composing oral life story. Based on this understanding, this study examined specific narrative strategies and the process of establishing and changing identity through a female pansori performer’s oral life story.
