현철의 『하믈레트』번역 방법에 대해서

Abstract

This paper is a review of how Hyun-Chul's "Hamlet" was translated. The translation method was examined by contrasting Hyun-Chul's translation with 『Hamlet』of Tswbouchi and Kume, which are complete Japanese translation materials. I found that Hyun-Chul's 『Hamlet』 translation method was not the only 『Hamlet』of the existing Tswbouchi. A brief summary of the translation method is as follows. They can be summarized as follows: ① Tswbouchi’s translation, ② Kume;s translation, ③ Mixed Translation, ④ Free translation, ⑤ mistranslation. I also noticed that a new source, Kume's 『Hamlet』, was referenced. In other words, there is a translation of Tswbouchi and Kume. In addition, there were many ways to translate the contents of Tswbouchi and Kume by mixing them well. There were also instances of paraphrasing in Hyun-Chul's style. In the end, it is a form of changing or adding the original translation by grasping the flow of the context of both translations. Finally, it showed some errors in Japanese vocabulary or grammar. From this, we can see that the translation was not done by considering only the hamlet of Tswbouchi as in previous studies. Moreover, it was found that the new fact was that he also referred to Kume's『Hamlet』, which is not well known in Korea. Also, since most of them refer to these two translations, it is difficult to see that they refer to the original English text. In other words, it can be seen that it was translated while using multiple materials as reference. For future tasks, it is necessary to look more deeply at what has been covered so far. There are many details to be clarified, such as the prosody of poetry, the problem of using Chinese characters and Chinese words, and the problem of translation by Koreans after Hyeon-Chul.
