Abstract

Thesis analysis is more than a simple apparent summary of the text but rather a task searching for the intention of the speaker. The followings are the internal elements within the text to be considered in order for the receiver to analyze the thesis. First, thesis analysis can be easier with specified thesis sentence or salient element of recurrence. Second, topics are value-intrinsic and teleological. Those with these characteristics expressed in languages become the thesis. When superior value conception is in accordance with our perception system appear, super ordinate concepts, which is easier to contain the thesis, become the hint for the thesis and work as the starting point of the thesis analysis. Third, the expressions showing how the speaker evaluates the narrated subject may imply the topic. These evaluative words can be directly stated in verbs or psychological adjectives revealing the speaker’s action or judgments or it can also be expressed in an indirect way revealing the identity of the narrated subject. Fourth, the hierarchy of the thesis suggestion givers should concur with logical hierarchy of macrostructure analysis. Fifth, in terms of order, what comes later functions as the closing, therefore it is more adequate for the topics to be placed in the back. What are in the later part are likely to be read as the topic when they are simply arranged in a row. Of course, the above are not absolute. External elements from the text may dilute the status of the thesis analyzed by the internal elements of the text. External elements can contribute more to the analysis as they tend to frame the analysis.
