초록
The purposes of this study are to introduce scalingcausal relations based on subjectivity in classification of coherencerelations, to compare scaling causal relations to rhetorical relations inrhetorical structure theory for getting theoretical validity, and to findtheoretical complement for setting taxonomy. The scale of subjectivitycan be classified as non-volitional causal, volitional causal, causalitybasedepistemic, noncausal epistemic, and speech-act relations. Meanwhile, rhetorical relations on scale of subjectivity can be analyzed asNon-volitional cause, Volitional cause, Non-volitional result, Volitionalresult, Evidence, Motivation, and Justify relations. Through thiscomparison, first, coherence relations of non-volitional and volitionalrelations can be divided with (Non-)volitional cause(result) and(Non-)volitional cause(result) respectively in rhetorical structure theory. Second, it is hard to distinguish causality-based epistemic relations fromnoncausal epistemic relations in rhetorial relations. Finally, rhetoricalrelations corresponded with speech-act relations of coherence relationsare confirmed to have only justify relations.
