As part of ChatGPT-based academic writing education for foreign learners, this study examined whether ChatGPT can reflect the stylistic characteristics of introductions already studied in the literature to generate introductions for academic papers in the field of Korean language education, and further discussed the possibilities and limitations of ChatGPT in academic writing education. In order to preserve the stylistic characteristics of the introductions generated by ChatGPT as much as possible, this study created structured prompts for ChatGPT that can be utilized for writing introductions based on the prompt engineering proposed by OpenAI. While the structure of the introductions generated by ChatGPT is relatively well-structured due to this prompt engineering, the limitations of ChatGPT's training data and the lack of information about intertextuality suggest that, overall, ChatGPT's introductions do not fully reflect the stylistic characteristics of introductions. Nevertheless, as ChatGPT technology continues to evolve, it will be important to explore how ChatGPT generates texts and how valid they are when dealing with specialized topics such as academic papers, along with continued interest in ChatGPT in the field of Korean writing and case studies of its educational use.
