Abstract
This study examines the translation of Chinese-Korean compound color terms, focusing on the gender of translators. Since the perception of color involves both physiological and psychological processes, Ai-ling Zhang employs various color terms to convey information that is either stored in the reader’s mind or remains unnoticed by them. From a translational perspective, rendering these color terms poses significant challenges. This study is innovative in its exploration of gender differences in translation, specifically analyzing how female and male translators approach colorful expressions that reflect female stylistics. Building on previous research on Chinese-Korean color terms, this study adds value by addressing the role of gender in translation and shifting the discussion from contrastive linguistics to a translational perspective. However, the scope of this study is limited by the quantitative constraints of the data, which restrict the analysis to a narrower range of color terms and translators. Despite these limitations, this research serves as an initial inquiry into gender-specific translation patterns of color terms, providing a foundation for future studies in this area.
