경기남동부 지역정체성 형성과정: 역사적 다층성을 중심으로 -역사적 다층성을 중심으로-

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the formations of regional identity in the Southeastern part of Gyeonggi,focusing historial multi-dimentsionality. Regional identity of this region has changed procedurally by a turning point ofhistory. Traditional regional identity has changed according to political and socio-economic changes and to the growthof Seoul, thus deriving changes in relative positionality, transportation, central hierarchy and administrative boundaries,and functions. The characteristics of this region have been formed by the extinction and transformation of tradition,and the creation of modernity. The traditional centers transformed into modern small towns, and the administrativeboundaries have been reduced by the expansion of several surrounding cities such as Seoul, Seongnam and Hanam.Traditional functions such as travel-inns and ferry points have been disappeared, but several functions such as militarybase, religion facilities, ceramic warehouse for Choseon Dynasty, tombs of kings have been remained as traditionalproperties. At present, functions of this region such as high technological production and research, residence, logisticcenter, touristic places have been derived as a threshold for Seoul since the Choseon Dynasty, indicating its function asa transport center towards the southern parts of Korea.
