Abstract
This study examined gender differences in commuting trip generated in the Seoul metropolitan area. As the proportion of women participating in economic activities increased, generated trip, outflow trip, average commuting distance, and commuting field were formed differently depending on gender. The probability of trip generation and the degree of job-housing mismatch were higher in men than in women. This means that the average commuting distance of women is relatively short. Regardless of gender, the average commuting distance showed a concentric distribution that increased from the center to the periphery. The average commuting distance by gender was longer for men in all regions, and the gap between men and women was relatively large in the nothern region of the Han River. The commuting fields derived from the OD matrix were more in women, but the cumulative explanatory amount was higher in men, and there was a difference in the spatial extent of the commuting field by gender. Men’s trip was concentrated in the central and western part of the Seoul metropolitan area, but women’s trip was divided into eastern and western parts of the Seoul metropolitan area.
