초록

본 연구는 세계유산 해석에 대한 문제를 유네스코가 지향하는 평화와 지속가능한 발전의 개념을 중심으로제도적 관점, 도덕적 관점, 실천적 관점으로 나누어 분석하였다. 첫째, 제도적 관점에서는 세계유산의 탁월한 보편적 가치 담론이 가지는 문제점을 짚어보고, 로컬 가치(local value)의 중요성과 함께 문화유산의 개념이 확대됨을 확인하였다. 둘째, 도덕적 관점을 통해 유산 사이트의 지속가능한 발전과 평화로운 공존을 위한 세계유산 해석과 지역 정체성과의 관계를 검토하였다. 셋째, 실천적 관점에서는 유산 해석과 세계유산 해석의 차별성과 유산 해석의담론 변화를 고려하여 다면적인 해석의 가능성을 여러 사례와 함께 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 향후 세계유산 해석의 방향과 과제에 대한 시사점을 도출하였다.

Abstract

This research analyzes issues of World Heritage interpretation from the institutional, moral and practical perspectives, based on the two core values of UNESCO: peace building and sustainable development. First, in the institutional aspect, problems identified in the Outstanding Universal Value of World Heritage discourse, which recognizes the importance of local value and gradual expansion in the notion of cultural heritage, were summarized. Second, in the moral aspect, the relationship between World Heritage interpretation and local identity, as necessary for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence at heritage sites, was examined. Third and finally, in the practical aspect, the possibility of multiple interpretation with respect to the difference between heritage interpretation and World Heritage interpretation as well as the changing discussion on heritage interpretation was explored, with relevant cases. The overall findings of this research suggest future directions and agendas of World Heritage interpretation.
