The purpose of this paper is to find the syntactic rules in ‘—기’ nominal clauses in 17th century's Korean. This paper can be summarized as follows : In the 15th century, ‘—음’ functioned as an inflectional ending, and ‘—기’ functioned as a derivational suffix. In this century, ‘—기’ was rare. From the 16th century, ‘—기’ began to function as an inflectional ending, but it was rare. And the great part of the ‘—기’nominal clauses functioned as the object. From the 17th century, ‘—기’ regularly began to function as an inflectional ending, but it was yet fewer than ‘—음’. In this century, ‘—기’nominal clauses functioned as the object were most. As time goes by, the function of ‘—음’ and ‘—기’ crossed each other. This paper shows that 17th century was the crossing point.
Abstract
