전문용어 정비의 현황과 과제

Abstract

Terminologies mean words or expressions used by people who share same interest in a particular domain. In a narrow sense, they mean the terminologies used and understood by particular professionals as technical terms. And standardization of terminology is the process and result of unifying terminologies up to fixed criterion. Terminologies can be come out variously for just one concept with field, user, language condition. This is the reason we need to manage terminology. The purpose of this paper is to deal with the present condition and problems of terminology management. Till now there were scattered projects for terminology management in each domain. The national institute of the Korean language(NIKL) performed a role in terminology management - academic discussions and proposals on the standardization of terminology, collection and compilation of the database of technical terms to provide bilingual or trilingual information, support of preparation of data for standardization, arrangement of service system of the integrated information database, etc. But too many tasks for achievement of terminology standardization are left. At first we have to improve the understanding of the need to terminology standardization. People can secure effective communication and economic feasibility from it. Distribution and expansion of the standardized terminology are in great demand.
