초록

This study examines Li Bai’s perspective on love through his poems dedicated to his wives, Xu and Zong. The paper analyzes 23 of Li Bai’s poems to his wives, exploring how his feelings towards Xu and Zong were expressed differently through his choice of words. In the poems dedicated to Xu, Li Bai primarily uses lyrical and idealized imagery, employing words such as ‘longing’, ‘spring’, ‘heart’, ‘flower’, ‘emotion’, ‘wind’, and ‘dream’ to express tender love and longing. In contrast, the poems to Zong use words like ‘return’, ‘leave’, ‘enter’, and ‘home’, conveying a more realistic and concrete expression of love. This suggests that Li Bai felt a more idealistic and romantic love for Xu, while his love for Zong was more grounded and stable. These differences appear to be closely related to Li Bai’s life experiences. His relationship with Xu represents the romantic love of his youth, while his relationship with Zong reflects a deeper love experienced in his maturity. Notably, Zong stood by Li Bai during his political and social difficulties, which is reflected in the more realistic and specific emotional expressions in his poetry. The study of Li Bai’s poems to his wives is not only crucial for understanding his perspective on love towards Xu and Zong but also for examining how these two women were perceived in his life and how they influenced him. This research may contribute to a reevaluation of the general perception of Li Bai as being undomestic, providing new insights into this aspect of his character.

Abstract
