초록

This article explores the redefinition of pastoral poetry in post-Virgilian literature focusing on Calpurnius Siculus’ Eclogues. I employ repetition as a reading tool for Calpurnius’ collection and suggest that the replay of the Golden Age theme is interjected with intertextuality. By replaying the return of the Golden Age and setting it against the backdrop of the proclamations of its restoration by previous Roman rulers, Calpurnius’ Eclogues reconstruct pastoral poetry as well as undermining the eulogy of the new emperor’s role in the return of that felicitous era.
