Abstract
This study aims to to identify latent classes of daily sharing behaviors depending on characteristics of formal and informal sharing practices and to investigate variables on determining these latent classes. Through this analysis, the research seeks to provide strategic interventions to promote a healthy culture of sharing. To achieve this, data from the Giving Korea 2022 individual donor survey, conducted by the Beautiful Foundation, were used. Latent Class Analysis (LCA) was applied to identify the latent classes within daily sharing behaviors by analyzing seven categories of daily sharing activities: donations, volunteering, blood donation, provision of cash, goods, or support to acquaintances, and helping others. Subsequently, multinomial logistic regression was employed to examine the determinants influencing each identified class. As a result, the LCA analysis revealed three distinct latent classes, which were defined based on the patterns of sharing behaviors as ‘informal sharing type’, the ‘high-level sharing type’, and the ‘low-level sharing type’. Furthermore, results from the multinomial logistic regression demonstrated that social trust, altruism, perceptions of nonprofit charitable organizations, age, gender, religion, marital status, and employment status significantly influenced these classifications. Drawing on these findings, the study proposes practical strategies to enhance sharing practices in daily life at various levels, ranging from individual acts of neighborly kindness to community-oriented initiatives and the development of governance structures for institutionalized sharing.
