Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the relationships between maximal oxygen uptake and records of distance run(1500, 2000, 3000 m) and to evaluate the validity of 3000 m run that Korea army conducts to measure a cardiopulmonary endurance. 24 military academy male and 21 female cadets were participated and each completed a series of tests to determine their maximal oxygen uptake, running time(sec), body fat(%), lean body mass(kg) and running distance of a week(km). Relationships between measures were established using Pearson product moment correlation(r) and linear regression analysis to estimate equation of maximal oxygen uptakes. Correlations were observed between 3000 m running time and O2max for all groups(p<.01). Simple regression analysis was applied to 1500, 2000 and 3000 m running time(s.) for prediction of O2max in the each group. The results suggesting that Pearson r and R2 of 3000 m running time for O2max is relatively high, but generalization for results is limited because of small sample size, various condition (measurement order, weather, temperature, humidity), not absolutely high R2. Therefore following research that complement measurement methods is requested.
