Abstract

The fundamental thing that Koreans should do is to find out Korean identity. Koreans cannot achieve their goals unless they enforce politics, economics, educations, etc. in harmony with their own identity. However, some people say that Koreans do not have any identity on the grounds that there is no Korean traditional thought. This view is, however, absolutely absurd because it is impossible for a nation to exist for over five thousand years without having its own native characteristics. The most essential thought in Korean identity is Confucius' In(仁). Confucius' In is originated from I-jok(夷族)'s heart. And I-jok's heart is Korean mind in today(Today's Korean mind is based on I-jok's mind). On this account, Confucius' In can be a precious thought to Korean people who have been suffering from many problems caused by the absence of Korean identity. Also, Confucius' In gives Koreans a good implication. Confucius evaluated everything not by its appearance but by its level of In. According to Confucius' view, America or Japan in today's world are not developed nations but Korea is a developed nation, instead. Nevertheless, the reason why these days' Koreans aspire to be a developed nation is that they are accustomed to judge things by their appearance. For that reason, they lost their identity. If Koreans could understand their original characteristics and if Koreans could realize that their original characteristics are Confucius' In, then they would not set such a goal to join the developed nations in today's world. Economic growth is important. But before that, Koreans need to study Confucius' In and after that they should revive their identity.
