고등학교 경제 담당 교사의 경제 수업에 대한 자신감 분석을 통해 본 경제교육 활성화 방안

교육성과에 대한 교사의 영향은 그간의 많은 연구들에 의해 입증되어왔다. 본 연구는 학교 경제교육의 성과에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 교사들의 질적 특성을 파악하기 위한 노력의 하나로 고등학교 경제담당 교사의 수업에 대한 자신감을 조사하고 이에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석하였다. 1,431명의 경제 담당 교사에 대한 설문자료를 사용하여 분석한 결과, 경제수업에 대한 자신감은 교사의 양성기관에서의 전공, 경제학 수강수, 경제연구회 및 동아리활동, 그리고 성별이 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 교사의 연령, 대학원 진학여부, 사범대학 출신 여부, 근무학교의 유형은 별 영향을 미치지 못했다. 학교 경제교육의 양적 확대가 어려운 현실에서 교육의 질을 높이기 위해서는 교사 양성과정에서 경제학 교육의 비중을 강화하고, 교사들이 자발적으로 전공지식을 심화할 수 있는 다양한 기회에 자발적으로 참여할 수 있는 유인을 부여할 필요가 있다. 또 자신감이 떨어지는 교사들의 경제수업을 보완하기 위하여 경제교육전문사이트를 통한 다양한 수업자료의 지속적인 제공이 요구된다.
Abstract
This study purposes to find out policy implications for the improvement of high school economics education based on the analytical result of economics teachers's confidence on school economic education. In this paper, we use the 2010 national survey data on economics teacher administered by Korea Association of Economic Education. We analyze the determinants of teachers‘ confidence with categorical data analysis using logistic regression analysis. The result shows that main factors affecting high school teachers' confidence on economic education are teachers' university major, number of economics classes both at undergraduate and graduate course, voluntary participation on teachers‘ research group, and male teachers. On the contrary, teacher age, type of schools working, hours of on-the-job economics education, and attendance at graduate school. For the enhancement of high school teachers' economic knowledge and competency, we need to consider not only providing incentives for teachers to take voluntary efforts to upgrade their economics knowledge and teaching skills through various group research activities and on-the-job training, but also setting up institutional arrangements to raise more competent economics teachers at the teachers college.
