Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the status and teachers’ awareness of utilizing technology in elementary social studies class. Through this study, it could be researched what teachers need to utilize technology in social studies class effectively. An embedded design amongst mixed methods of research was used. The main research method was quantitative and the secondary research method was qualitative, which allowed for an in-depth understanding of the quantitative data. The subject of this study were 186 teachers, who teach elementary social studies, Among them, 5 teachers were selected for in-depth understanding. The result are as follows. First, most teachers belonged to the type of “teacher-centered”. Second, there was a large gap between the ideal and the real regarding utilizing technology. Third, teachers who had a career of less than 5 years tend to think students’ role as being passive in technology class.
