테크놀로지의 발달과 함께 사회과 수업에서도 내용과 방법으로서 교수학습매체의 활용이 활발하게 이루어지고 있고 그러한 현상은 특히 초등 단계에서 더욱 두드러지고 있다. 본 연구는 초등 사회과 수업에서 교수학습매체가 어떻게 활용되고 있는지를 비판적으로 고찰하기 위한 목적을 가지고 있다. 이를 위해 초등학교 교사를 대상으로 설문조사와 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 다음과 같은 몇 가지 경향을 발견할 수 있었다. 첫째, 초등 사회과 수업에서 디지털 매체의 구비 및 활용이 증가하고 있었다. 둘째, 동기유발이나 학습정리 등 수업의 보조적 단계에서의 매체 활용이 상대적으로 많이 나타나고 있었다. 셋째, 사회과의 내용적 특성 및 사회과에 대한 학습자의 인식에 기반하여 매체의 활용이 이루어지고 있었다. 넷째, 학생발표시 매체의 활용 효과에 대한 의견이 엇갈리고 있었다. 사회과 수업에서 보다 효과적으로 매체를 활용하기 위해서는 바람직한 매체관을 정립할 필요가 있다. 또한, 학습자와 학습환경의 맥락에 적합한 매체용 콘텐츠를 재구성하는 노력도 요구된다. 또한, 학습주체들의 쌍방향 의사소통 매체 활용능력을 함양하는 것이 중요하다.
Abstract
The use of teaching-learning media is now increasing as contents and methods in the social studies instruction in pace with the development of technology, which is remarkable in elementary school level. This study aims to make an critical inquiry into how they are used in elementary social studies instruction. For this purpose, a survey and in-depth interviews were carried out with elementary school teachers. The main results of the inquiry are as following: First, the use of digital media is increasing in the elementary social studies instruction. Second, elementary social studies teachers tend to make much use of media such as in motivation or summary, which is not in the main process. Third, the use of media is based on the characteristics of social studies and on the students' perception of the subject. Fourth, there is an disagreement of the effect of the use of media. Some efforts are needed for more effective use of media in the social studies instruction. To begin with, it is important to settle the sound view of media. And teachers have to endeavor to reconstruct the educational contents for media. And it is necessary for teachers and students to cultivate competency to use media.
