Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the OMNI children’s perceived exertion scale(0-10) and to develop an estimated equation of physical activity intensity. The participants were 11 boys(BMI: 20.65 ± 4.29, age: 10.45 ± 1.16) and 12 girls(BMI: 20.88 ± 2.6, age: 10.42 ± 0.76). Ten activities(sitting, standing, slow walking, normal walking, brisk walking, slow and fast running, moving a box, and stair up & down) were performed respectively, and OMNI children’s perceived exertion scale was employed during each activities. The physical activity levels were measured by portable indirect calorimetry(K4b2, Italy). To analyze the data, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and pearson’s correlation coefficients were applied. All alpha levels were set at .05 and SPSS 20.0 was used to calculate. The results of this study were as followed. First, there was no difference between male and female with both physical characteristics and physical activity levels. Second, there were statistical differences between physical activity levels and types. Third, there was positive relation between physical activity perceived exertion and level of physical activity. According to the above results, the physical activity perceived exertion scale for evaluating physical activity levels was verified. This indicates that the physical activity perceived exertion scale would be valuable measurement for assessing children’s level of physical activity. Throughout this study with physical activity perceived exertion scale, estimated equation of physical activity intensity was developed.
