Abstract

The purpose of the study was to compare Physical Literacy (PL) in children based on parents' participation in physical activity (PA). Thirty nine children aged 7~8 years old participated in the study. They were divided into three groups including none of parents participate in regular PA (N=10), only one participate in regular PA (N=13), both participate in regular PA (N=16). PL was measured using the Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy version-2 (CAPL-2) developed in Canada. PL score was not different between groups but there was a significant difference in sub-domains such as shuttle run trials and motivation and confidence(p<.05). The level of shuttle run trials and motivation and confidence score were higher in the children where both parents participated in the PA compared to other groups. However no significant differences were observed in other domains. Our findings suggest that children's PL can be improved when both parents participate in PA. In order to promote children's physical activity, parents should also be encouraged to participate in regular physical activity.
