이 논문은 칸트와 맹자의 윤리학의 구조를 도덕성의 근원과 도덕성의 실현 방법이라는 측면에서 살펴보고, 이러한 윤리학의 구조를 통해 나타나는 두 윤리학의 공통된 특징을 살펴보고자 한다. 칸트와 맹자는 각각 인간은 실천이성과 인의예지라는 도덕 본성을 본래 지닌 존재로 이해하여 도덕성의 근원을 선천적 도덕 본성에 두고 있다는 공통점이 있다. 또한 칸트와 맹자는 도덕성의 실현 방법에 대해 도덕 본성을 통해 인지할 수 있는 도덕 법칙을 실천해야 한다고 주장하는 공통점이 있다. 이와 같이 칸트와 맹자는 도덕 본성으로 주목한 실천이성과 인의예지의 본성을 기반으로 도덕성의 근원과 도덕성의 실현 방법을 모색하고 있는 공통적인 윤리학 구조를 구축하고 있다. 이러한 구조를 통해 나타나는 칸트와 맹자 윤리학의 공통된 특징은 인간은 스스로 도덕 법칙을 세우고 이에 복종할 수 있는 능력을 지닌 자율적 존재이면서, 동시에 도덕 법칙을 반드시 지켜야만 하는 의무를 지닌 존재로 파악하고 있다는 점이다. 즉 칸트와 맹자 윤리학은 자율 윤리이면서 의무 윤리라는 공통된 특징이 있음을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper examines the structure of the ethics of Kant and Mencius from the perspective of the source of morality and the method of realizing morality, and examines the common characteristics of the two ethics that emerge through this structure. Kant and Mencius each understand that humans are beings with an innate moral nature of practical reason and benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom, and they share the commonality of locating the source of morality in an innate moral nature. Kant and Mencius also have in common that they insist that the way to realize morality is to put into practice moral laws that can be recognized through moral nature. Thus, Kant and Mencius are building a common ethical structure that seeks the source of morality and the method of realizing morality based on the nature of practical reason and benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom, which they have focused on as moral nature. Through this structure, the common characteristic of Kant's and Mencius' ethics is that they understand humans as autonomous beings with the ability to establish and obey moral laws, while at the same time having the duty to follow moral laws. In other words, we can see that Kant's and Mencius' ethics have the common characteristic of being both autonomous ethics and duty ethics.
