상담자의 내담자 강점 인식 발달 과정 연구

본 연구는 상담자가 내담자의 강점을 인식하는 관점의 발달 과정을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 숙련상담자 15명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하고, 그 자료를 근거이론의 방법에 따라 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 상담자의 준거 체계 변화가 내담자 강점을 인식하는 발달 과정에 매우 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 상담자의 내담자 강점 인식 발달 과정은 이해 단계, 재구성 단계, 명료화 단계, 통합 단계, 통합 유지 단계의 5단계로 도출되었고, 이 과정에서 상담자의 전문성 발달과 인간적 성숙의 통합은 강점 인식 발달에 핵심적인 요인으로 확인되었다. 상담자의 내담자 강점 인식 발달 과정은 ‘관점의 확장을 통해 강점의 통합적 의미를 내면화하고 내담자의 주체적인 강점 인식을 조력함’으로 설명되었다. 관점이 확장된 상담자는 문제와 강점을 동시에 인식하며, 맥락과 상황에 따른 강점의 역동성을 이해하였고, 강점의 통합적 의미를 재구성하며, 내담자가 스스로 강점을 인식할 수 있도록 조력하는데 주의를 기울였다. 이상의 연구 결과를 토대로 본 연구가 갖는 임상적 함의 및 제한점에 대해 논의하고, 후속 연구의 방향을 제안하였다.

Abstract

The study sought to understand how counselors develop their perspectives on client’ strengths. Data from 15 experienced counselors were, analyzed using the grounded theory method. The following are the main findings. First, a shift in counselors’ frames of reference for assessing client’ strengths has a significant impact on their expertise. Second, the perceptions of client’ strengths developed in the following order: ‘understanding’, ‘re-structuring’, ‘clarifying’, ‘integrating’, and ‘maintaining integration’. In this process, the integration of the counselor’s professional development and personal maturity were identified as the key factors in the development of strength perception. The counselor’s process of developing client strength awareness was explained as ‘internalizing the integrated meaning of client’ strengths by broadening perspectives, and helping clients to perceive their own strengths’. Finally, the implications and limitations of the findings are discussed, and future directions for research are suggested.
