이 논문은 유학에서 시간과 공간의 문제를 어떻게 다루고 있고 현대에 그 논의는 어떠한 의의를 갖는지 연구한 것이다. 마치 물리학에서 절대와 상대의 이론이 있듯이, 유가철학의 思惟體系에도 그 같은 각도로 접근하는 시간과 공간에 대한 논의가 있는데, 孔孟의 고대철학, 근세의 송대철학, 그리고 근현대의 유가철학의 경우를 살펴보았다.시간과 공간 개념은 천지, 자연, 우주의 含意에 이미 존재해 있고, 이에 周易은 人間 역할의 중요성을 표현한 것인데, 그 같은 맥락의 자연과 인간의 진리이자 길로서의 “道”와 그 현상계로서의 “器”의 문제를 이 논문은 다루고 있다.“道”라고 할 때 길 또는 진리로서 그 영원성과 역사성이 또한 문제된다. 그리고 이 “道”는 어떻게 접근되는 것이고 그것은 과학, 철학 또는 윤리학의 범주에서 어떤 관련성을 갖는 것일까? 이 논문은 과학적인 추구와 인간 삶의 질적 측면을 고민하는 면모가 만난다면, 그것이야말로 유가철학의 본래적 추구라는 점을 공자와 맹자 그리고 중용의 철학을 통하여 지적한다.물리학이 시간성과 공간성, 그리고 위치의 관련성 속에서 그 에너지의 양이 절대적이냐 상대적이냐를 원리적으로 접근하는 것처럼, 철학 또는 윤리학도 어느정도 그 같은 의미의 시도에 인색하지 않고 인문주의적 각도에서 진리를 제시할 때 인간 삶의 부조화는 해소될 것이라는 점을 이 논문은 지적한다.
Abstract
This thesis is to study how the problem of the background of time and space was dealt in Confucianism and what it means in the contemporary. Just as there were the discussions of absoluteness and relativity of energy in physics, there has been discussions whether the way of life might change or not in opinions and viewpoints revealed by Kung-tzu and Meng-tzu, philosophers in Sung and Ming dynasties and modern periods as Confucian philosophers.Through this thesis we can check how our way, originated from the thought of I Ching, was related with the background of time and space and how it should be. In the contents of I Ching we meet tao(道) as the way and chi(器) as the background of life, and their meaning implies how men under the control of nature should act.There have been discussions if the concept of the way as the truth or the vehicle might include eternity, irrespective of the situation, time and space in which we live. But modern Confucian scholars asserted the way of life, for example, the constitution like national system, must be changed as the time passes.This world, where we live, exists in time and space, therefore we should take that fact into consideration when we make plans for our lives.Accordingly science of humanities, for instance, philosophy, ethics including Confucian thoughts, etc, should discover the timely truth for our lives, so that we might live with each other harmoniously.
