Abstract

『Zhongyong』 is a text that should be used and implemented directly in the moment of our lives, as it discusses how the right mind of man is realized with constancy in everyday life. However, the times when 『Zhongyong』 was written and the circumstances of modern times are quite different, and it is true that Zhu-Xi and Jeong Yak-yong's interpretation are suitable interpretations of their time and cannot be applied directly to modern people's lives. That is why few, even if they want to know the meaning of 『Zhongyong』 want to learn it through their bodies, and few, even more, aim at a level of constancy in life, even if they try to learn it through their bodies. Looking back, however, on many issues in modern society, including the recent 'Berningsun Gate' incident, one finds the need for restoring the educational function of 『Zhongyong』 to discuss tolerance as the most basic step in pursuing harmony with the outside world. This research aims to explore the possibility and direction of modern interpretation to restore 『Zhongyong』's educational function. The development of the text is said to explore the possibility of modern interpretation by looking at the interpretation of Zhu-Xi and Jeong Yak-yong, among the scholars who attempted to reinterpret 『Zhongyong』, along with the problems of the times in which they lived, and then try to interpret the 『Zhongyong』 suitable for modern society.
