Abstract
The topic of this paper is on the Self-Cultivation Theory of Ildoo(一蠹) Jeong, Yeo Chang(鄭汝昌). One of the important categories in his Self-Cultivation Theory is Mountain and River. He loved them very much. Because it was possible for him to learn Sincerity from them, so he always tried to make himself strong and untiring like them. And one of the important backgrounds in his Self-Cultivation Theory is a Great Learning and Golden Mean from which he learaned and practiced Sincerity and Piety. He lived a life of no self-deception(毋自欺). The contents of lip-ji-lon(立志論) just fit in with a Great Learning and Golden Mean. and it corresponds to the another scholars' critics. In his thought, li-gi-lon(理氣論) is a logical tool for Self-Cultivation. He recognized that li and gi cannot separate each other, but they also cannot mix together. The former means a real world we live in, the latter means a ideal world we ought to live in. The purpose of this theory intends to arrive at the latter from the former. So the latter is much more important.
