This paper investigated making history of Korean commercial encyclopedic dictionary in 20th century. In this paper, we would like to explore a methodology for dictionary making. Oral history interviews are a key source for interpreting the methodology because sources of dictionaries have disappeared. Interviews with practical lexicographers who took part in dictionary making reveal how encyclopedic dictionaries compiled. First of all, dictionary makers make effort to increase the size of dictionary. Entries added encyclopedic information. The sources of the information are established encyclopedia and technical texts. They were aimed minimum volume and maximum entries. A few skillful lexicographers’ intuition was most important resources. Commonly, dictionary compilation committee was organized one or two special lexicographer and a large number of editors and copyeditors. Finally, Dictionaries' orthograph and part of speech were subordinated to Korean government language policy.
