‘화학(化學)’이란 용어의 한국어 유입과 수용

At present, “Chemistry” is uniformly translated into “化学” in Korean, Chinese and Japanese. In this paper, the author first analyzed the forms and contexts of “Chemistry” when it came into being in the eastern and western Asian countries; and the author did some researches on the route of its introduction and acceptance process in Korean based on the researches of the authentic materials, such as the Chinese book «易言» published in the early modern Korean period and its Korean version “Ieon”, the record of ambassadors’ travelog or diaries, and the research on the same era’s “HANSEONGSUNBO” and “HANSEINGJUBO”. Chinese, Japanese and Korean share the same cultural origin. The author hopes that this research on the shared new sino-neologisms and genealogy would shed light on the future researchers’ understanding toward the foundation of Korean Chinese vocabulary system in the modern period.
