This article examines the acceptance and diffusion of western loanword to modern Korean in the end of 19th to the first half of 20th century. It focused on the acceptance and diffusion of western loanword to modern Korean historically. And we illustrated the relevance of its circulation and that background each other on modern newly-coined word. It associated on the history of modern Korean consciousness, and discusses the different point of view between Lee, Gwangsu and Lee, Jonggeuk on modern newly-coined word that may be adopted in regard to borrowing motive. We categorized how to accept western loanword as newly-coined word according to the various text. We found that there are much confusion on the notations of western loanword before establishing the modern orthography in the 1940s. We believe that our claim is a desirable consideration, particularly because our focus is on the newly-coined word that can be interpreted objectively based on modern Korean consciousness of text at that time. As a result it is emphasized the acceptance and diffusion of western loanword of modern Korean language in modern era.
