Abstract

In this paper, while reviewing the structure of previously published source books and dialect dictionaries, the author's experience was used to discuss the points to be noted in the selection of headwords, the organic combination and arrangement of each microstructure, and the direction of description. The compilation of a dialect dictionary must investigate and accumulate data for a long time, extract meaningful forms from them, and describe each item within the dialect system. Field investigations, construction of the corpus, and dictionary description take a long time and involve a lot of pain. In order for dialect dictionaries to reveal the system of the dialect to be investigated and contribute to the geographical differentiation of the Korean language, historical research, and research in adjacent disciplines such as cultural anthropology, a thorough plan must be conducted, and a sufficient amount of colloquial corpus must be collected. Additionally, the macrostructure and microstructure of the dictionary must be established and described appropriately for the purpose of compilation. By doing so, dialect dictionaries will be able to reveal the specificity of individual dialects and the universality of the Korean language, enrich Korean vocabulary, and contribute to the establishment of language policies and the succession and preservation of traditional culture.
