사회적 공감 능력 신장을 위한 대학 교양 수업 사례와 효과 분석

본 연구는 대학 교양 교육에서 사회적 공감 능력을 신장하기 위한 수업 모형과 프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과를 분석함으로써, 사회적 공감 능력의 교육 가능성과 수업의 확산 가능성을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 사회적 공감의 개념과 특성, 사회적 공감 교육에 대한 대학 교양 교육의 책임과 역할, 사회적 공감 교육 동향 등을 살피고, 설계기반연구 방법에 따라 사회적 공감의 구성 요인을 반영한 수업 모형을 설계하였다. 그리고 사회적 약자나 소외 계층이 겪고 있는 고통에 대해 맥락적 이해하기와 거시적 관점 수용하기를 시도함으로써 타자의 고통에 대한 이해의 지평을 확장하고 문제 해결의 대안을 마련하여 실천하는 프로젝트 기반 수업 프로그램을 개발하고 운영하였다. 수업에 참여한 학생들을 대상으로 사회적 공감 능력 검사를 실시하여 수업 전과 후의 변화를 분석한 결과, 해당 수업은 사회적 공감 능력 신장에 통계적으로 유의한 변화를 이끌어냈다. 특히 타자의 고통을 그들의 입장에서 이해하고자 하는 관점 수용과 문제를 해결하기 위한 사회적 실천의 중요성에 대한 인식 형성에 큰 변화가 나타났다. 사회적 공감은 일정한 교육 프로그램을 통해서 신장될 수 있음을 확인한바 본 연구의 수업 모형 및 프로그램은 대학생의 사회적 공감 능력 신장을 위한 수업에 적극 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to design a liberal arts class program in college to enhance social empathy and to analyze its effects. In addition, the possibility of social empathy education and its expansion to the class program are explored. To this end, this study developed a class program that can enhance social empathy with design-based research methods. It is a project-based learning that understands the pain of others in the context of social empathy and experiences practical actions to change society. The degree of change before and after class was analyzed by examining social empathy for students who participated in the class. As a result of the t-test, the class had a statistically significant effect on the improvement of empathy. In particular, it had great influences in role acceptance to understand the pain of others from their point of view, and awareness formation of the importance of social action to solve problems. Since social empathy can be enhanced through education, it is noteworthy as one of the content elements of liberal arts education in college. In addition, it is expected that the program of this study can be actively used in classes for cultivating the social empathy for college students.
