Abstract

One of the new perspectives in interpreting the characteristics of architecture during the Goryeo Dynasty is climate change. Climate change during the Goryeo Dynasty was largely understood to have maintained a warm climate in the 10th and 11th centuries, and then gradually changed to a cold climate in the 12th century as cold began and warm and cold continued. It was confirmed through representative examples that architecture during the Goryeo Dynasty changed in response to these climate changes. The method of creating a landscape by actively attracting water and open spaces in the early Goryeo Dynasty was not irrelevant to the warm climate through the Hoigyeong- Jeon site in the main palace of Gaegyeong and the Paju Hyeum-Won site. On the other hand, in the late Goryeo Dynasty, the situation in which the ondol spread to the front of the interior was identified in the ruins of Ganghwasa Temple Site. In addition, through the analysis of Hoeamsa site in Yangju, it was mentioned that while being influenced by Zen Buddhism Temple in South of the Yangtze river of China. It opened a new world architecturally in the climatic conditions of the central part of the Korean Peninsula in the 14th century. In addition, it was found that the landscape decorated with waterways seen in the early Goryeo Dynasty in the Gyeonggi area disappeared amid cold climate change. The Gyeonggi area is located in the middle of the Korean Peninsula in terms of latitude, so it is like a barometer of climate change. Furthermore, the Goryeo Dynasty was a period of clear change from a warm climate to a cold one, so the impact was sufficiently reflected in the buildings built at the time.
