세대별 행복의 차이 및 결정요인 분석

초록

본 연구는 국회미래연구원의 2020년 ‘한국인의 행복조사’ 원자료로 세대별 행복의 차이 및 결정요인을 분석하였다. 인구집단을 5개 세대(산업화, 베이비붐, X, M, Z)로 구분하여 행복감을 비교한 결과, M세대가 가장 높고, 산업화세대가 가장 낮았으며, 베이비붐세대와 X세대 간 차이는 뚜렷하지 않았다. 인접세대 간 행복감 차이에 대한 옥사카-블라인더 분해 결과, 산업화세대와 베이비붐세대 간 차이는 건강, 가족관계 만족도, 취업여부 등의 차이로 설명되지만, X세대와 M세대의 차이는 전술한 요인에 의한 행복감의 차이로 설명되었다. 취업 여부, 단독가구 여부, 자가주택 거주 여부와 세대 구분과의 상호작용항을 이용한 회귀분석 결과, 취업은 M세대와 X세대의 행복감을 높이며, 단독가구인 베이비붐 세대 남성과 산업화 세대의 행복감이 낮았고, 자가주택에 거주하는 X세대와 베이비붐세대의 행복감은 높았다. 따라서 국민 삶의 질 제고를 위해서는 세대별로 사회정책의 우선순위를 정립할 필요가 있다.

Abstract

This study investigates happiness differences and determinants across generations using data from the 2020 'Korean Happiness Survey.' The M-generation reports the highest happiness levels, while the industrialization generation reports the lowest. The happiness difference between baby boomers and the X-generation is inconclusive. Variations in health, family relationship satisfaction, and employment status explain the happiness difference between the industrialization generation and baby boomers, while subjective happiness differences better explain the disparity between Generation X and M. Employment significantly contributes to the happiness of Generation M and X, while single-family baby boomers and the industrialization generation experience lower happiness levels. Generation X and baby boomers living in their own homes exhibit higher happiness levels. Thus, prioritizing generation-specific policies is vital for improving overall quality of life.
