Research Methods for Korean Language Learner Corpus Analysis

초록

This study aims to provide systematic, well-grounded methods for Korean language Learner Corpus analysis. Despite the fact that there has been research which analyzes Korean learner corpora, methods applied to Korean language learner corpus analysis vary depending on scholars. As a result, findings are different among researchers, so are difficult to apply to the development of Korean teaching methods. In this respect, the existing literature related to the Korean learner corpus were examined to develop research methods for analyzing Korean learner corpora. In line with the objective, references were systematically selected, limiting the search to 1) publications in Korean and English; 2) peer-reviewed articles; 3) articles published between 2000 and 2019. Furthermore, these articles were identified in terms of 1) purpose of study, 2) use of data, 3) pretreatment of data, 4) use of variables, 5) normalization of frequency, 6) categorization of error, 7) calculation of error rate. Based on the findings, detailed methods relevant to Korean language learner corpus analysis are provided for dealing with Korean corpora data, normalizing frequencies, and calculating error rates. Finally, an analytic framework, which could be used widely used in the area of Korean language learner corpus analysis, was suggested for future research.
