아동청소년 서사에 나타난 과도한 죄책감의 극복과 문학교육의 방향 -백온유의 『유원』을 중심으로-

Abstract

This study focuses on the negative aspects of guilt in children and adolescent narratives, explores the influence of excessive guilt on the growth of characters and the process of overcoming it, and seeks the direction of literary education for the emotion of guilt. To this end, irrational guilt that is too strong or lasts a long time is defined as ‘excessive guilt’, and how this guilt is depicted in children and adolescent narratives is analyzed, focusing on 『Yuwon』. In particular, the process of overcoming excessive guilt was examined through the process of changing the character’s self–consciousness, given that guilt is a self–conscious emotion. The main character, Yuwon, is fixated on the guilt that his survival was achieved at the expense of others, perceives herself negatively, and continues to punish herself. However, through relationships with others, he gradually regains the balance of guilt and reaches self–acceptance, accepting his judgments and emotions as they are. Yuwon saves himself from excessive guilt and moves toward a subjective life through specific practices of self–improvement. The literary education implications derived through this are as follows. First, literary education needs to pay attention to the negative impact that excessive guilt has on a character’s growth and the educational value of overcoming it. Second, it must organize educational activities that can gain various literary experiences and awareness of the conflicting aspects of guilt. Third, it is necessary to consider expansion to moral emotions adjacent to guilt, including shame and empathy.
