《說文解字》 경전 인용의 의미 — 《書》의 인용을 중심으로

《說文解字》의 문자 해설 형식 가운데 경전을 인용한 방식은 표제자의 용례를 제시한 것으로 이해하기 쉽다. 그러나 《書》를 인용한 173개의 글자를 살펴보면, 許愼이 인용한 문장은 많은 경우 현전하는 판본과 다르며, 차이가 없는 경우에도 글자의 의미에 대한 풀이가 다른 주석가들과 달랐다. 또 異體字와 假借 현상 및 글자의 讀音을 설명하기 위해 《서》를 인용하거나, 글자가 가리키는 사물을 설명하기 위해 인용한 경우도 있었다. 따라서 《설문해자》의 경전 인용은 용례를 보여주기 위한 것으로 한정해서는 안되며, 오히려 今古文經의 차이로 인해 논쟁이 발생한 글자나 문장에 대해 허신이 자신의 학문적 입장을 밝히려는 의도로 인용하였다고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
People prone to understand the method of quoting scripture of Shuowen Jiezi in explaining characters is to present the examples of the letters. Taking a closer look at the cited 173 letters from Shangshu, however, the author Xushen has often cited the sentences in a different edition that are not identical to the originals, or the sentences in the originals with dissimilar comprehensions to that of other commentators. In addition, Shangshu, was cited to explain the variant form of a Chinese character, phonetic loan characters, the pronunciation of letters, and in some cases, to explain the object to which the letter refers. Therefore, the intention of the scriptural citation of Shuowen Jiezi should not be limited to simply showing examples. It is reasonable to believe that Xushen cited Shangshu to make his academic position clear on the phrases and letters in the dispute between the modern script version and the old script version.
