Abstract

This paper researched the word order of copular sentences in Sino-Tibetan, Kra-Dai, Hmong-Mien and Austroasiatic languages ​​of ethnic Minorities in China. First, the word order of positive copular sentences was investigated, and the word order of positive copular sentences was roughly divided into languages with ‘SOC’ and ‘SCO’ languages, and the word order of negative copular sentences and interrogative copular sentences were investigated. In languages where the positive copular sentence word order is ‘SOC’, the negative copular sentence order was ‘SONC’ in most cases, but there were also a few other word order types. In languages where the af copular sentence order is ‘SCO’, the negative copular sentence order is ‘SNCO’ in most cases, but there are also a few other word order types. In languages where the positive copular sentence order is ‘SOC’, the yes-no question copular sentence order is ‘SOC(Q)’ in most cases, but there are also a few other word order types. In languages where the positive copular sentence order is ‘SCO’, the yes-no question copular sentence order is ‘SCO(Q)’ in most cases, but there are also a few other word order types. In all languages, wh-question copular sentences have the characteristic that the interrogative word does not appear at the beginning of the sentence and maintains its original word order position. There is no dominant word order type for the word order of affirmative alternative question copular sentences, affirmative-negative question copular sentences with object, and affirmative-negative question copular sentences without object, and a wide variety of word orders appeared. And in languages where the positive copular sentence order is ‘SCO’, affirmative-negative question copular sentences that play the role of tag-question appeared in a wide variety of word orders.
