주쳰즈의 생명주의형 문화학에 관한 소고 - 동아시아 지역연구의 문화학적 재창안 -

Abstract

This study aimed to contrive a culturological theory model for revitalizing a new meaning of the studies on East Asia against a conventional European type or its replicated Japanese type of imperialistic thought, that is, regional communities, regional solidarity, regional identity, etc. It also aimed to expand the cultural horizon of East Asian studies by overcoming the perspective on the regional studies(Area Studies) in which the modern inventionism of Western Europe and Japanese imperialism is involved; and reforming this region into a re-created living space of living together; prospering together; and empathizing together. Its reality is to embody the ‘Empathy For Life’ type of knowledge network configuration that converges the interaction, abundance, and freedom of the second machine age(empathic civilization) instead of the mutual conflict, gap, and restraint of the first machine age(industrial civilization). In this study, the research model was tried through the formation circumstance of Chinese cultural studies in the first half of the 20th century, namely, the culturological theory of Zhu Qian-zhi(朱謙之, 1899-1972). The dignified ‘art(life) culturalism’ on which Zhu Qian-zhi established the theory while witnessing the destruction of Chinese and East Asian cultures in the 1930s and 1940s shows the valuable direction of knowledge for the culturological regional conception of the second machine age and the establishment of life-empathy-type East Asian studies. Zhu Qian-zhi’s life-oriented type of Culturology, which handles ‘true feeling—true life’ as its essence, is the meaningful resource of humanities for establishing the culturological knowledge base of today’s East Asian studies. Moreover, the culturological theory as creative thinking formed by the ‘love’ of educational culture and the ‘beauty’ of art culture removes the negative function(dysfunctional) as a regional study of the past in view of East Asian studies naturally characterized by pharmacon and provides a positive inspiration to secure an intellectual and moral identity for forming a regional community.
