주쳰즈의 문화학에 관한 논고 - 『문화사회학』을 중심으로 -

본고는 동서 생명주의적 문화독법 차원에서 주쳰즈의 『문화사회학』, 나아가 그와 접맥된 ‘문화학’의 전체체계 및 그 핵심내용을 고찰한 것이다. 주쳰즈는 문화를 ‘생명’으로 정의한다. 그럼으로써 자신의 생명주의적 문화학 구성의 포괄적인 범주틀로 삼고자 했다. 그의 문화학은 하위분과인 ‘문화철학’과 ‘문화사회학’으로 양분된다. 문화철학은 지식적 문화유형학으로서 지식문화의 본질과 유형, 그리고 종교, 철학, 과학, 예술 등 각종 지식생활에 대한 연구이다. 그에 반해서 문화사회학은 사회적 문화유형학으로서 사회문화의 본질과 유형, 그리고 정치, 법률, 경제, 교육 등 각종 사회생활에 대한 연구이다. 특기할 점은 이 지식문화유형과 사회문화유형의 제반 교호관계가 각종 사회적 문화형태 내지는 역사적 문화시대를 창조한다. 주쳰즈가 구도한 인류의 이상사회는 교육의 문화가치인 ‘사랑愛’과 예술의 문화가치인 ‘아름다움美’의 교직이 만들어낸 문화사회 다름 아니다. 이 ‘사랑’과 그 지식원형인 ‘아름다움’의 특질이 인류문화의 제반영역에 포진된 세계, 이른바 교육시대 혹은 예술시대는 바로 유교의 ‘대동세계’와 맞닿아 있다. 요컨대 주쳰즈의 문화학은 사해동포주의로서 인류애의 생명주의에 기초한다. 그것은 동서 여러 생명철학이 협력하지만 그 원형은 결국 ‘유교생명주의’로 수렴된다. 이 일련의 문화학 연구기획은 현금 인문학 위기의 문화주의적 해법모색과 동아시아적 문화학 영역 확보라는 당면과제에 귀중한 지적 영감을 제공해준다.
Abstract
This study has researched the 'Cultural sociology' of Zhu Qianzhi in the view of Eastern and Western cultural perspective of vitalism and its related conception, the whole system as well as the core contents of 'culturology'. He defined the culture as 'a life and wanted it to be a comprehensive category of his vitalistic culturology. His culturology is divided to the sub-categories of 'cultural philosophy' and 'cultural sociology'. The cultural philosophy is a typology of intellectual culture and deals with various intellectual lives such as the essence and the types of intellectual culture, religion, philosophy, science, and arts. While cultural sociology is a typology of social culture and deals with the essence and types of social culture, politics, laws, economy, and education. It is notable that all interactions between these intellectual culture type and social culture type create various types of social cultures or historic ages of culture. First of all the humankind's ideal society sought by Zhu Qianzhi is just the cultural society made by interaction between 'love', a educational value of culture, and 'beauty', a artistic value of culture. The traits of this 'love' and its intellectual prototype 'beauty' have lined up in all areas of human cultures creating the world of education ages or art ages, and this meets with just 'datong world' of Confucian ideas. The sociology of Zhu Qianzhi is a cosmopolitanism and bases on vitalism of humanity. Even though it is associated with lots of Eastern and Western philosophies of life, at last it comes to 'Confucian vitalism'. The series of research plans on culturology provide precious intellectual insight for the current issues such as cultural solution to the crisis of humanities and ensuring areas for East Asian culturology.
