Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine MyeongJae YunJeung’s perspective on ‘Gyeong(敬)’ and explore its educational implications at a preliminary level. To achieve this goal, this study first investigates MyeongJae’s references to Gyeong and his general understanding of this concept. It also examines the fact that MyeongJae made intense efforts to attain the benefits of Gyeong. Additionally, by restructuring the <WiHakJiBangDo(爲學之方圖)>, which MyeongJae revised, the study examines how MyeongJae’s practical concerns are deeply reflected in this diagram. Subsequently, this study discusses MyeongJae’s emphasis on ‘HwalGyeong(活敬)’ and, based on the premise that the essence of HwalGyeong is concretely revealed in 「YeoJaHaengKyo(與子行敎)」s, it analyzes and organizes the healing effects provided by Gyeong, the way a person with a calm mind approaches situations, and the aspects of self-reflection, which constitute both the content and method of Gyeong. Lastly, this study proposes the educational implications of MyeongJae’s Gyeong thought at a preliminary level. First, MyeongJae’s way of emphasizing Gyeong and its content offers the potential to supplement ‘discipline(訓育)’ as a form of educational method. Second, MyeongJae’s attitude toward life suggests an educational goal that true happiness is not found in external things like money or fame but in ‘mental health’ gained through self-reflection(自反). Third, by utilizing MyeongJae’s career-related advice to his son HaengKyo as educational content, it can help teach the value of public office, which has become somewhat overlooked in modern times, more effectively.
