남계 박세채의 심학지결(心學旨訣)이 지니는 현대 교육적 함의 －｢2022 개정 교육과정｣ 비판 및 교육의 지향점 설정을 중심으로－

본 연구의 목적은, 17세기 조선을 대표하는 유학자 중 한 명인 남계 박세채의 저서 심학지결(心學旨訣)에 나타나는 그의 ‘경(敬)’ 사상을 살펴보고, 이로부터 현대 교육적인 함의를 시론적인 수준에서 도출하는 것이다. ⓐ 위 목적의 달성을 위해 본 연구에서는 먼저 심학지결의 ｢발문｣과 ｢진심학지결소｣를 분석하여 남계가 이 책을 편찬한 목적을 정리하였는데, 첫째는 ‘경학(敬學)’을 체계화하기 위해서였고, 둘째는 공부하는 사람들로 하여금 이 책을 완송하게 함으로써 삼가고 두려워하는 태도와 마음가짐을 자연스럽게 체득할 수 있도록 도와주기 위해서였으며, 셋째는 그 누구보다 수양에 앞장서 모범을 보여야 하는 임금 숙종에게 ‘주일무적’으로 중심을 잡되, 경으로 함양, 성찰, 치지, 역행, 명천리, 멸인욕해야 한다는 점을 당부하기 위해서였다. ⓑ 이어서 본 연구에서는 교육의 지향점 설정에 관하여 심학지결로부터 도출할 수 있는 현대 교육적 시사점을 살펴보았는데, 교육의 지향점이란 곧 교육을 통해 길러내려는 ‘인간상’을 의미하고, 대한민국의 공식적인 학교 교육과정, 특히 총론에 기술된 도덕적 행위 주체의 의미가 불명료하다는 전제 아래 논의를 진행하였다. 결론적으로 교육적 시사점의 첫째는 심학지결이 도덕적 행위 주체에 관한 구체적인 이미지와 양태를 보여준다는 것이고, 둘째는 도덕적 행위 주체가 되려는 노력은 인간이라면 마땅히 추구해야 하는 주요 과제라는 점을 확인할 수 있도록 해 준다는 것이며, 셋째는 도덕적 행위 주체로서의 성숙이야말로 인간의 격(格)을 유지하면서 살기 위한 기본 조건이자, 이러한 주체가 행하는 실천의 범위와 영향력은 개인을 넘어섬을 알게끔 해 준다는 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the idea of 'Gyung(敬)' as it appears in <Sim Hak Ji Gyeol(心學至訣)> by Nam Gye(南溪) Park, Se Chae(朴世采), one of the representative Confucian scholars of 17th-century Joseon, and to briefly derive its educational implications for the present day. To achieve this objective, this study first examines the purpose for which Nam Gye wrote <Sim Hak Ji Gyeol>. The first purpose was to systematize the study of 'Gyung'; the second was to help learners cultivate an attitude and mindset of careful and diligent effort; and the third was to emphasize to the king, who should take the lead in self-cultivation and serve as a role model, the importance of studying 'Gyung'. Next, this study examined the contemporary educational implications that can be derived from <Sim Hak Ji Gyeol> regarding the setting of educational goals. Here, educational goals refer to the image of a person to be cultivated through education. The discussion proceeded on the premise that the meaning of a moral agent, as described in official school curriculum, remains ambiguous. The first educational implication derived is that <Sim Hak Ji Gyeol> presents a concrete image of a moral agent. The second is that the effort to become a moral agent is a fundamental task that every human being ought to pursue. The third is that maturity as a moral agent is a basic condition for living as a fully qualified human being, and that the scope and influence of such an agent's actions extend beyond the individual.
