Abstract
This study aimed to address the structural limitations of large buoys, which are crucial for maritime traffic safety, by designing and verifying an ICT-converged smart buoy. Conventional buoys have faced issues such as reduced structural safety and operational efficiency due to repetitive external loads, corrosion, and maintenance challenges. To tackle these problems, we implemented a dual-sealed chamber structure and a reinforced lower rib design to ensure buoyancy even in the event of external damage. Additionally, a modular internal configuration was adopted to enhance maintenance convenience and worker safety. Structural analysis conducted with SolidWorks indicated that the maximum Von Mises stress was approximately 25% of the yield strength of SS275 steel, with a maximum displacement of 0.1946 mm and a strain of 1.828×10⁻⁴, all within acceptable limits. Furthermore, hydrodynamic simulations using ANSYS-AQWA revealed a stable inclination response of less than 9.06° even under extreme wave conditions (wave height of 5 m and period of 10 s). Field verification with IMU sensor data also confirmed the buoy’s stable dynamic behavior in real marine environments.
