초록

In the process of reconstructing SPECT-CT fusion images, we analyzed and evaluated the effect of the photon energy difference between the gamma rays used in SPECT and the X-rays used in CT on attenuation correction through phan- tom experiments. We selected 99mTc (281.20 M㏃), which emits low-energy gamma rays of 140 keV, and 131I (98.42 M㏃), which emits high-energy gamma rays of 364 keV, as radioactive tracers. A Jaszczak SPECT phantom was created, and images were acquired using a SPECT-CT scanner. Afterward, using an image analysis program, we classified the images into categories based on Total Uniformity and Center to Edge Ratio before and after attenuation correction. Total Uniformity was analyzed by setting a region of interest (ROI) in the image of all the phantom slices combined, while the Center to Edge Ratio was analyzed by setting a 2 ㎝ diameter difference between the Total ROI and the Inner ROI. The results showed that the Total Uniformity of the 99mTc phantom image improved by 10.13%, from 87.42±1.26 before attenuation correction to 96.28±0.42 after. Additionally, the Center to Edge Ratio improved by 4.67%, from 1.07 before attenuation correction to 1.02 after. The Total Uniformity of the 131I phantom image decreased by 0.01%, from 91.56±1.48 before attenuation correction to 91.55±2.64 after. Furthermore, the Center to Edge Ratio decreased by 6.86%, from 1.02 before attenuation correction to 1.09 after. The attenuation correction of X-rays based on the physical properties of the energy, type, radioactivity, and physical half-life of radioactive tracers in Hybrid SPECT-CT can improve image uniformity.

Abstract

In the process of reconstructing SPECT-CT fusion images, we analyzed and evaluated the effect of the photon energy difference between the gamma rays used in SPECT and the X-rays used in CT on attenuation correction through phan- tom experiments.
