초록

In universities that offer Department of Radiology or Dental Hygiene and operate facilities equipped with radio- isotope or radiation generating device, professors often take on dual roles as both educators and safety managers. Balancing these responsibilities can be quite challenging, particularly when determining how to prioritize and execute safety management tasks. According to the Nuclear Safety Act, health examinations and radiation education must be conducted before using radiation generating devices, and personal dosimeters must be worn to access radiation controlled areas and operate radiation generating device(RG). Furthermore, a comprehensive understanding of radiation safety management tasks such as adherence to the Nuclear Safety Act, record maintenance, and periodic reporting can create a safer environment for students to conduct practical training involving radiation-generating devices. This paper is based on the 2022 Radiation Field Periodic Inspection Guide published by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) and presents a case study of periodic inspections conducted by KINS at this university in April 2024. By examining this case, the study aims to provide universities with insights into the roles, responsibilities, and preparation processes required for radiation safety management when faculty members perform dual roles as educators and safety managers.
