오늘날 전문가는 사회의 이상적 시민상으로 자리 잡았고 예술계 또한 전문가적인 모습을 보여준다. 즉, 예술계는 자율적 판단에 근거한 높은 수준의 체계적 지식과 기술을 제공하고 사회는 이들의 판단을 따른다. 그런데 전문가주의와 예술의 자율성은 근대 미술시장의 탄생과 기원을 같이하기 때문에 시장과 분리될 수 없는 구성적인 모순을 가진다. 1990년대 이후 자본주의가 발전할수록 예술의 자율성과 전문가주의의 구성적인 모순은 더욱 첨예하게 드러난다. 특히 관객참여 형 프로젝트는 전문가로 고용되는 작가가 자본주의 메커니즘을 반복하는 한편 비전문가의 취향을 예술에 반영하면서 예술의 자율성을 행사할 수 없는 딜레마를 야기한다. 비전문가의 취향을 수용한다는 것은 문화의 민주주의를 실현하지만 예술은 자신의 전문성과 전문가로서의 특권을 포기해야 하는 것이다.
Abstract
Today, professional elite has become the ideal image of the society and Artworld also reflects professionalism in their practices professionals in the Artworld provide with bodies of autonomous intellectual theory and exercise authority to set higher standard of their respected fields. Such authority for art professionals comes from that society acknowledges on the autonomy of their judgment. However, autonomy of the arts has constitutional paradox that cannot be separated from its market because it shares same origin of Modern market. The more art practices and professionalism became closer ever after the 1990s, more visible this constitutional paradox of autonomy of the arts became. In art practices like audience participatory projects, in particular, the artists are hired as art professionals to repeat the mechanism of Capitalism while they have to yield their professional judgment to audience’s taste. Accepting non-professional’s taste might achieve cultural democracy, but the artists are subjected to give up their privilege as professional.
