본 연구는 유아교육, 보육, 돌봄 개념의 형성과 변화를 시대적 맥락 속에서 고찰하고, 각 개념에내재된 철학적 기반과 실천적 특성을 분석하여 이들 개념의 이론적 통합 가능성을 탐색하는 것이그 목적이다. 이를 위해 관련 선행연구와 문헌을 분석하여 개념 변화가 뚜렷하게 나타나는 시점을기준으로 5개의 역사적 연대를 구분하였고, 통합 가능성 분석을 위해 6가지 관점을 도출하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 각 개념들의 역사적, 시대적 변화는 선교 중심 교육과 사적 책임으로서의 돌봄기, 유아교육의 제도화와 보육의 분화 초기, 교육과 보육의 이원화기, 유보통합 논의 본격화와 돌봄의 제도적 진입기, 국가 주도적인 유보통합과 돌봄 확대기로 구분하여 분석하였다. 둘째, 유아교육, 보육, 돌봄 개념의 통합 가능성을 다차원적으로 그 가능성을 분석하기 위해 정부의 정책 및 법제도, 가족의 돌봄 지원 요구, 전문가 양성과정, 영유아교육기관 운영 구조, 발달심리학 이론, 영유아의 삶의 질 관점에서 통합 유아교육 개념의 본질을 고찰하였다. 본 연구는 유보통합이라는 정책전환기 흐름 속에서 유아교육의 본질을 재정립하고, 향후 통합적 접근을 반영한 미래지향적 유아교육 패러다임 수립을 위한 이론적 토대를 마련하였다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore how the concepts of early childhood education, childcare, and nurturing care have evolved over time, and to examine their theoretical integration by analyzing their philosophical and practical foundations. Based on literature review, five historical periods were identified to reflect major conceptual shifts, and six analytical dimensions were used to assess integration potential. The findings of the study are as follows. First, the historical and temporal evolution of the concepts was categorized into five distinct periods: care rooted in mission education and private responsibility, early institutionalization and differentiation, dualization of education and care, institutionalization of care and policy discourse on integration, and state-led integration and expansion of services. Second, the study explored the theoretical integration of early childhood education, childcare, and care through six key dimensions.: policy and legal systems, family needs, professional training, institutional structures, developmental psychology, and children’s quality of life. This study is meaningful as it redefines early childhood education in the context of policy transition and lays a foundation for a future-oriented and integrated paradigm.
