Abstract

This study examined the sequential mediating effects of differentiation of self and marital conflict in the relationship between mothers’ family-of-origin experiences and coparenting. A survey was conducted with 527 mothers of children aged 3 to 6. Reliability, correlation, and mediation analyses were performed using SPSS 21.0 and PROCESS Macro (Model 6). The results revealed the following. First, self-differentiation mediated the relationship between mothers’ family-of-origin experiences and co-parenting. Second, marital conflict also served as a mediator in this relationship. Third, a significant sequential mediation effect was found, indicating that mothers’ family-of-origin experiences influenced co-parenting through the pathways of self-differentiation and marital conflict. These findings underscore the importance of addressing family-of-origin influences in efforts to enhance co-parenting practices. Interventions that promote a deeper understanding of family-of-origin dynamics and foster higher levels of self-differentiation may be effective in reducing marital conflict and supporting cooperative parenting.
