Abstract

Hegel outwardly seems to consider emotion as first step to reason or spirit, because he often says immediacy of emotion is sublated in the developmental process of spirit in his books. But he tries to obtain the unity of emotion and reason to overcome dualistic thought. According to Hegel, reasonal faculty and emotional faculty do not have each objective domains and criterions, but both coexist and influence the whole human life. And both are the moment for development of spirit. Concerning emotion, Hegel maintains that emotion does not stay at the unchanged state and implicates up leveled determination in changes. When we speak of emotions, the emotion is always under reflexion. From Hegel's point of view, emotion is reflected, sublated and mediated acting with consciousness, and rid itself of immediacy. According to his opinion, when motion is treated as the absolute or the relative, the contents of these always fall into a separation and a subjective error. Hegel takes precautions against assertion that insist the truth acquired from relative and separated thought. Of course, this relativeness may have a new meaning for the stage that suggests other issues against absolutism. Philosophical arguments about emotion or passion cannot eventually help containing general contemplation about human nature, thinking ability and action. In this view, Hegel's thought shows that emotion and reason act each other and have a structure of a reciprocal action. So emotion and reason must be considered in the process of unity.
