본 연구는 의식의 세계 경험을 파노라마적으로 기술한 헤겔의『정신현상학』에서 언어가 갖는 역할과 이 언어가 의식이 어떤 관계를 맺고 있는지를 탐구하고자 한다. 헤겔은 이 책의 곳곳에서 언어가 갖는 신적 본성이라거나 혹은 언어가 좀 더 진리에 가깝다고 말하면서 언어에 특별한 관심을 보이고 있다. 이 작품에서 언어는 의식의 경험을 표현하는 도구이자 수단의 역할을 하지만 동시에 언어 자체가 의식을 대변함으로써 언어와 의식 간의 구별이 모호해지는 경우도 있다.‘고귀한 의식’과‘비천한 의식’에서 드러나는‘아첨의 언어’와‘분열의 언어’, ‘아름다운 영혼’에서 드러나는‘죄에 대한 고백과 용서의 언어’처럼 의식을 대변하고 의식이 사용하는 언어가 의식 자체를 표상하는 경우들이 많다. 이럴 때 언어와 의식의 차이가 무엇이고, 왜 언어를 의식과 동일시하고 있는지를 이해하는 것도 중요한 문제라고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 여기서 다음과 같은 문제들이 제기될 수 있다. 『정신현상학』에서 언어는 의식의 세계 경험을 기술하기 위한 도구에 불과한 것인가, 혹은 “언어는 존재의 집이다.”는 하이데거의 말처럼, 언어가 의식의 경험과 일체화될 수 있을까? 헤겔이 분열의 언어를 분열의 의식과 동일시할 때 의식과 언어는 어떤 관계를 맺고 있는가? 분열의 언어를 무한판단으로 간주할 때의 의미는 무엇일까? 우리는 여기서는 주로 언어의 신적 기능, 그리고 의식의 표현을 위한 도구와 수단으로서의 언어와 정신 장에 드러난 ‘자기 소외된 정신’을 고찰하면서 소외된 세계, 분열된 의식, 분열의 언어를 중심으로 언어와 의식의 관계를 다룬다. 다음으로 분열의 언어에서 나타나는 분열의 구조를 헤겔 논리에서 일반적으로 표현되고 있는 자기 자신의 타자, 자기 관계하는 부정성, 무한판단 등과의 비교를 통해 분열의 언어를 정신의 존재론적 구조의 차원에서 다루고자 했다.
Abstract
This study aims to explore the role of language and its relationship to consciousness and a panoramic account of consciousness' experience of the world in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, Throughout the book, Hegel shows a special interest in language, referring to its divine nature or its proximity to truth. In this work, language acts as a tool and a means of expressing the experience of consciousness, but at the same time, the distinction between language and consciousness is sometimes blurred as language itself speaks for consciousness. There are many cases in which the language of consciousness and the language used by consciousness represent consciousness itself, such as the language of flattery and the language of division in "Noble Consciousness" and "Base Consciousness," and the language of confession and forgiveness of sins in "Beautiful Soul. In this case, it is important to understand the difference between language and consciousness, and why we are equating language with consciousness. This raises the following questions. “In the Phenomenology of Spirit, is language merely a tool for describing consciousness’ experience of the world, or can language be unified with consciousness' experience, as Heidegger says: ”Language is the house of being“? What is the relationship between consciousness and language when Hegel equates the language of division with the consciousness of disruption? What are the implications of considering the language of division as infinite judgment? We will address the relationship between language and consciousness, focusing here primarily on the alienated world, divided consciousness, and the language of division, examining the divine function of language, Adam's language, and the "self-alienated spirit" revealed in language and the psyche as tools and vehicles for the expression of consciousness. Next, I compare the structure of division in the language of division to the ontological structure of the psyche, which is commonly expressed in Hegelian logic, such as the self's own Other, self-relating negativity, and infinite judgment.
